Find A Senior Reading Group

Everyone has an elder in their life, usually more than one. Unfortunately, as we grow older there isn't much for seniors to do; bingo can only go so far. They are retired, and most of the seniors do not have enough money to have a second home to visit, or to vacation more than once a year, if at all. So, suggesting to your elder about joining or making a senior reading group.

Help your elder with the necessary steps and ideas to create such a group. Make a reading list of books that they would be interested in. A good idea would be looking at your local book store and make a gift basket full of books and magazines they like. Many books for elders can come in larger print for less strain on the eyes.

You can also visit your local library for books and you can even ask if they have any senior reading groups or know where one can be located. They may also know of popular reading books that are most checked out by similar age groups. You may be surprised what types of books are checked out. Your grandpa may not only like history books but they may want to read fiction books, even romance books.

If your loved one does not want to go in front on strangers to talk about books they read, suggest getting some friends together and having a reading group on a weekly basis. Not only will this help their reading skills it will help their memory since they will meet with their friends and talk about it.

Let's face it; the elderly are limited to what they can do. Most do not work and they have a lot of time on their hands. Getting a senior reading group formed can give your loved ones something to do and they are also doing themselves some good of their memory.
