Years ago there was no such thing as senior fashion. You got to a certain age ' maybe 55 ' and you were expected to 'look your age'. This usually included black man style shoes with thick clunky heels, non-descript black dresses, hair in a bun, no makeup ' because after all, who expected you to look good anyway?
Today, there's a world of difference between what our grandmothers wore then and what they wear now. Walk into any retirement home and see ladies walking around in the latest jeans, polo shirts, velvet sweat suits, really cool sneakers, and even lots of makeup and nice jewelry.
Long gone are days when anyone over 40 is supposed 'look their age'. Older models are showing the goods in leading catalogs and even on the runway. 'Seniors' over 60 haven't all put on those 40 extra 'middle age' pounds and many still can fit into a size 4 ' making many 30 year olds green with envy!
Leading designers are heeding the call of the over 50 crowd by giving them beautiful outfits for all occasions from casual at home wear to formal dinner attire and everything in between.
No more polyester tops and elastic waist pants! Women fought long and hard to be able to wear sexy and attractive clothing at any age and finally they have their wish. Department stores all over carry styles meant for seniors that even college coeds would be happy to own.
Some moms and grandmothers don't even bother buying clothes! They just raid their daughters' and grand daughter's closets and wear the same outfits and shoes ' and still look great.
Many seniors no longer buy anything specifically designed for 'their age group'. They just buy whatever they like. A blouse from juniors, a dress from misses, a bathing suit from the resort wear section ' it's all good!
